A. A.

The first step is speaking to an experienced contractor at Shepard Custom Cabinets about what you want from your custom cabinetry. A great place to start, is to send us the dimensions of your rooms, either through sketches or architectural blueprints. Once we have determined the scope of the work required, we can give you a cost estimate. This will begin the planning phase, and we can assist you with making the final decisions on what you want.

B. Design Details & Consultation

After we have done our initial due diligence, and provided an estimate to you for the cost, we will start the design and consultation phase. We will communicate with you via email and phone, and we will need to visit the site in order to take final measurements. This is where we finalize the design plans and estimate the time it will take to complete the project. We also create a complete list of supplies. This phase will determine the cost of the project.

C. Exact Drawings and Deposit Payment

During this step we will produce a payment schedule and give you ample notice for any upcoming payments. The payment schedule corresponds to the next phases of the project, including final plans, cabinet fabrication, as well as the final building.

After the planning phase is completed, your project will be added to our schedule once the down payment has been paid. Once the planning phase is complete, we will have drawings that include all necessary measurements and materials. We chose these processes because of the difficulties that can arise from making changes once fabrication begins. Once you give us your instructions, we will fabricate your cabinets.

D. Building the Cabinets and Onsite Installation

This is where all the pieces fall together. Your cabinets will be built and crafted at our Anaheim location. Once the fabrication phase is completed, we will transport everything to your property for the final installation. The last deposit is paid when the whole project is done, which typically takes between 4 to 8 weeks. Custom cabinets are made to order so the turnaround time will vary depending on the style and number of pieces you choose, as well as the labor time required for each piece.

Different Styles of Cabinet Doors
It is crucial to choose the right cabinet door as it is the most prominent part of your cabinet. When choosing a cabinet door there are two classifications that will affect how your cabinet looks overall, the way that the door style, and how the door is attached to the cabinet frame. Each will have a large impact on the character of your cabinet.

Cabinet Door Attachments
A full-overlay cabinet door completely covers the front face of the cabinet, and consequently provides more storage space. This one-continuous low profile surface is very popular today because the cabinet frame is covered in 100 percent.

Cabinets with inset doors have the door set into the frame, sitting fully flush when closed. Sometimes you may see the hinges attached to an outside surface. This requires precision during fabrication.

Partial overlay cabinets show much more of the cabinet frame, with about 1″ to 2″ of the frame exposed.

The Differences between Cabinet Door Styles
The recessed panel door makes it look like the center panel is depressed into the cabinet, give it a sleek streamlined feel. This style is used often in contemporary cabinets, and offers a lot of options when it comes to design.

Frameless glass front cabinets have a single glass pane, but no dividing mullions.

Mullion frame doors have vertical and horizonal bars that breakdown the face of the cabinet into sections. The glass inserts in the panes and sections allow you to see the interior of each cabinet.

Cabinets with raised panel doors feature a central panel that is elevated and surrounded by a recessed border. Raised panel doors are very popular and can be found on all types of cabinets, from classic to modern.

The slab cabinet door, or flat-panel door, is simply a single slab of lumber and is totally flat.

Handcrafted bath cabinets and custom vanities
A refined tidy bathroom can really help improve your quality of life, and by adding custom bath cabinetry you can really upgrade the aesthetics and add to the storage space. While you are brainstorming the design for your custom vanities and cabinets, you should write a list of all your storage needs. Do you need makeup storage built into your vanity? Do you have an abundance of items in your bathroom, and would love to have as much storage space as possible? Do you need cabinet space to store your towels? After you have identified your needs, an expert cabinet maker at Shepard Custom Cabinets will help you design the perfect design.

You can use a custom-made vanity to fully use your space, renovate your bathroom, and find a place for all your stuff! By hand making creative storage solutions for your bathroom cabinets and vanities, you can improve the aesthetics and functionality of your bathroom. A retreat you will feel serene and relaxed after a long hectic day.

Custom Media Centers Handcrafted
In addition to custom cabinets, one the more popular pieces of furniture we build at Shepard Custom Cabinets is custom media centers, otherwise known as entertainment centers. An entertainment center typically houses your television, sound systems, video game consoles, and related paraphernalia. Many of our customers find that their television is an essential piece of your daily life. This is why they are able to get a custom-built entertainment centre.

Often ready to assemble (RTA) media centers are made from cheaper materials, such as particle board, and don’t stand the test of time. Shepard Custom Cabinets only uses the highest quality hard wood for your custom media center. This will make it look great today and last many years. An endless tangle wire mess in the middle of your living room can distract from your surroundings and make it difficult to see. We can help you design cabinets that will accommodate your wires and conceal clutter.

Stains and finishes
In addition to the style of your cabinet doors, the size and shape, the type of materials, you can also add more character by choosing a finish. A finish is used to treat the surface of the cabinet to give it a desirable characteristics, such as improved protection, and alterations of it’s color and texture.

Waterborne finishes can be used to protect against scratches and damage. They are also non-toxic to the environment. Waterborne finishes can be fast drying and can mimic the appearance of many other stains. If you like patterns of grains of your piece of wood and want to change the color, it is great choice.

Glaze finishes can add texture and color to your cabinets’ surfaces. They can be applied directly on top of stained or painted cabinets. If you like a glossy look, glazing your cabinets will give it a shine, as well as add damage and moisture protection. You can paint your cabinets to hide the wood grain, and you can change the color of your cabinets as much as you like. A popular option is to paint your cabinets flat white. There are many options, and Shepard Custom Cabinets’ expert craftsmen are available to help you. Give us a call today.
